An estimated 1 million Haitians with life-altering hearing loss can be denied basic daily needs like food, clean water, and even their own freedom because of their inability to communicate their needs. Some of them cannot even learn their own name. These precious children with hearing loss are often seen as cursed and a burden. The lack of educational resources makes them more susceptible to becoming discarded or even traded to another family to serve as domestic servants.
The Tim Tebow Foundation works alongside Haiti Deaf Academy to pioneer and support an Early Identification Program for children. This program helps identify hearing loss at a much earlier age, improving the chances of a child’s ability to learn a language. Through proper identification, children with hearing loss can then be given the necessary support and resources and encouraged to reach their God-given potential. Ultimately, our hope is for these precious children to no longer see themselves as cursed, but instead, they will know that they are cherished, valued, and loved by God.
