In Ethiopia, many girls migrate to the closest big city in hopes of a better life by pursuing advancement through education or searching for work to send income to their families back home. However, after unsuccessful job searches, these girls often end up in unfortunate living situations—unwillingly trapped as home servants, married off young, and used physically. Some never find their families again and remain homeless, leading to worse situations like trafficking.
In Colombia, around 2,000 young adults age out of the country's child welfare system with no support, no sense of belonging, identity or self-worth, leaving them at risk of a lifetime of health, relationship, and behavioral challenges. Because they have been separated from their families, many of these young women experience physical and emotional trauma.
Through the AGCI & TTF House of Hope, we can provide trauma-informed care for children by providing a safe and nurturing environment to heal. In Ethiopia, local staff work to identify the families of the young girls we serve and reunify them when possible. In Colombia, young women receive spiritual mentorship and life skills education to pursue God's calling on their lives.
We believe that there is power when we come together, and we are so grateful for the caring teams at AGCI Ethiopia and Colombia as they live out God's love while caring for these precious girls in their darkest hour of need.
