In Honduras, almost 70% of its residents live in poverty, and an estimated 170,000 children are orphaned. That number is rising by the thousands, with an estimated 21,000 new cases of children in crisis each year. In the country, many children are at risk, lacking access to basic care and education, and are often in areas exposed to sexual exploitation.
TTF works alongside Orphan Outreach, which operates closely with the Honduran Child Protective Services to meet the needs of vulnerable children in the country. One of the pioneering efforts in Honduras is to equip families to open their homes for a season to children, similar to the foster care system in the United States. The ultimate goal of these efforts is to move each child out of the protective system, reunify them with their own families if possible, or place them into their forever families where they are cared for, loved, and valued.
