Joey’s W15H
Hello October 17th, 2015Share This Story
Like most 11-year-old boys, Joey Jordan loves football, basketball, going to the beach and spending time with his family. However, there was a time in Joey’s childhood when the very things he loved could no longer be a part of his day-to-day life…
Joey’s Story
When Joey was just five years old, his mother became concerned about a blood clot on his face that would not go away. She took him to the doctor, where they received news that would dramatically change the lives of Joey and his entire family. They were referred to a children’s hospital an hour and a half away from their home, where Joey was soon diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
After his initial diagnosis, Joey persevered through three and a half years of treatment. This treatment included more than 20 spinal taps to ensure the leukemia had not spread to his spinal fluid and brain, as well as multiple treatments for high fevers and low white blood cell counts.
Throughout Joey’s battle with leukemia and the challenges he continues to overcome daily, he has always demonstrated strength and perseverance. “Some days are harder than others for him, and some days people would never know that Joey is a cancer survivor. But that’s exactly what Joey is, a survivor,” said his mother, Heather. “Joey is an inspiration to his family and my hero. I thank God every day that He decided Joey should live.”
During one of his hospital stays, Joey was watching Tim play on TV. “He saw that Tim would not give up, he didn’t listen to people say he couldn’t do something,” said Heather. “Joey went through the same thing. Joey had to push through the doubt and trust in God to carry him through the tough times.”
Joey’s W15H Experience
Joey’s W15H is the fourth official W15H experience of 2015. He and his family arrived in College Station, TX on Friday, where they got to spend the afternoon at Grand Station with all-access passes to play mini-golf, laser tag, arcade games and bowling. Following a fun-filled afternoon, Joey experienced a special dinner with Tim at the Tradition’s Club and even had the opportunity to spend some time throwing the football with Tim.
His W15H continues today with a behind the scenes look at the live set of SEC Nation with Tim. Following SEC Nation, Joey will watch as the Texas A&M Aggies take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Joey’s W15H experience will conclude on Sunday, October 18th after a weekend full of fun, encouragement and special moments designed specifically for him. We pray he feels inspired and cared for after his W15H experience, just as we have been inspired by his special story.
