In his eight years of life, Scottie has been overcoming seemingly impossible odds since the very beginning. When he was just three weeks old, Scottie was admitted to the hospital after what seemed to be a viral infection that spiraled into seizures and other severe medical complications. The diagnosis would forever impact his life…
Scottie’s Story
Scottie was diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH, a disease that resulted in numerous rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant from one of his five sisters. In the years since his diagnosis, Scottie has continued to fight with perseverance and joy through many medical procedures because of HLH, such as cerebral palsy and epilepsy. The lives of Scottie and his family members have been imprinted by his medical journey, but they cling to their faith, seeing God’s healing power in everything. As Scottie’s mother stated, “Miracle after miracle, Scottie survived it all.”
Throughout his treatment, there was something special about Scottie’s perspective. “Although he was young, Scottie was extremely interested in stories of hope and overcoming the impossible,” said his mother. It was this interest and his love for Gator football that first sparked Scottie’s regard for Tim. After watching Tim throw an 80-yard touchdown pass while playing with the Denver Broncos, Scottie’s mother says, “He was instantly hooked! As parents, my husband and I have prayed that our children would not get swept away by the influence of the world. If they do ever look to others for example, that it would only be to men and women of integrity and faith… we believe that Tim is an answer to that very prayer.”
Scottie’s W15H Experience
This weekend marks the Tim Tebow Foundation’s second official W15H experience of 2015, which will take place in Gainesville, FL. Scottie and his family arrived in Gainesville yesterday afternoon for special time with Tim and a delicious lunch at Vellos! Following lunch there was one thing on Scottie’s mind – a trip to the barbershop to fulfill his wish of getting a haircut to match Tim’s!
Scottie’s W15H continues today as he goes behind the scenes of the live set of SEC Nation with Tim. Following SEC Nation, Scottie will attend a VIP tailgate experience leading up to the football game, where Scottie will get to see his Florida Gators take on the Tennessee Volunteers!
Scottie’s W15H experience will conclude Sunday, September 27, after a weekend of special gifts, unique experiences and quality time with Tim. We pray Scottie has an extra-special W15H experience as he continues to overcome incredible odds, while living out an inspirational story of his own!
