An Angel’s Freedom – Prayers are answered at Tebow CURE Hospital

Walking is a part of everyday life, a freedom that most of us take for granted. We learn to walk when we are young, we never look back, and on average, we take as many as 10,000 steps per day. We rarely see our ability to walk as a gift, but for some, walking normally and without pain is a dream that can only be answered through prayer and the Lord’s will.

For Angel and her family, freedom from her bodily limitations was just that – a prayer. Angel was born with hydrocephalus, (water on the brain,) and spina bifida, (caused when a developing baby’s spinal cord fails to develop properly.) She was born a prisoner to her own body. Due to her condition, Angel’s hips gradually dislocated, causing extreme pain and surviving became the daily concern, let alone healing fully. To be set free from her constraints, Angel would need a hospital that possessed the care and skills never before seen in the Philippines. This Angel needed Faith, Hope and Love.

Unable to afford surgery, Angel’s mother, Jessica, turned to missionaries who had been serving in their local village since 1998 and, through a series of events, the missionaries were able to connect them with the Tebow CURE Hospital. As is the Lord’s timing, they were just a week away from bringing Dr. Tim Mead on staff. He had just come from a hospital in Africa where he was weekly performing the same surgery Angel needed.

Throughout her stay at the Tebow CURE Hospital, Angel always had a smile, tons of energy, and said she “never wanted to leave.” When asked why, she said, “they treat me like a princess!” Angel’s mom, Jessica, said one of her favorite things about her daughter was her incredibly positive attitude. Angel rarely complained about her casts, but talked about how she couldn’t wait to be free to walk and run! Through Dr. Mead’s expertise and skill, he was able to complete Angel’s surgery in one procedure, which also meant the end of her extremely cumbersome and heavy waist-down cast.

Now, in a much lighter cast for the time being, Angel is home with her family recovering for the next few weeks. Thanks to the good Lord’s provision, the Tebow CURE Hospital and generous donors, an Angel’s liberation is nearly complete and she is joyfully looking forward to the approaching day when she can walk free!

Each surgery at the Tebow CURE Hospital averages $2,000 (USD). To help provide life-changing procedures for children such as Angel, donate today at www.timtebowfoundation.org.

The Tim Tebow Foundation exists to bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need. The foundation fulfills this mission every day by making dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses through the W15H program, building Timmy’s Playrooms in children’s hospitals, providing life-changing surgeries to children of the Philippines through the Tebow CURE Hospital, sponsoring Night to Shine, a worldwide prom, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs, providing care for orphans in four countries and Adoption Aid grants for families who choose to adopt an international child with special needs, and encouraging service to others through Team Tebow.
