ETHIOPIA, December 2024—When Linda* was nine years old, she moved with her sister from their hometown in the southern region of Ethiopia to the capital city, Addis Ababa, in hopes of finding work. In Ethiopia, it’s common for young girls and boys to move to the city in search of education, work opportunities, and a better life. Sadly, these children often end up alone, vulnerable, and on the streets, where they’re at risk of trafficking and abuse.

Upon coming to Addis Ababa, Linda and her sister became domestic workers. Their dreams of opportunity and a better life in the big city devastatingly turned into undocumented child labor. To make matters worse, after two months of working in the home, the sisters were in the city, and Linda was left behind.

Alone on the streets, Linda was found by local police and brought to AGCI & TTF House of Hope. The House of Hope provides trauma-informed care for children who have gone through stressful experiences away from their families and have found themselves in a big city alone. The home is a safe refuge for young girls to live, learn, and find true healing while the staff works to find their families and reunify them whenever possible.

side-by-side.jpgWhen she first came to the House of Hope, Linda was suffering from the effects of trauma and neglect. Through therapy, education, and life skills training, Linda began to heal and then blossom. Participating in the House of Hope’s devotional time, Linda came to know and understand God’s love for her and His promise to never leave nor forsake her. Through the love she experienced from the staff and other girls, she learned the value of family and self-worth.

After walking alongside her family for a couple of months and providing support and counseling, reunification was deemed safe and possible. We’re thrilled to share that Linda is back home with her parents and attending school.

Thanks to the care and love she experienced at the AGCI & TTF House of Hope, Linda has newfound hope and joy for her future. The evidence is in her smile! We look forward to seeing the wonderful things God has in store for her life!
